Bioshock is a follow-up to the first-person shooter
Set in a city in the sky
Bioshock Infinite is set in 1912, with violent combat based on a huge array of guns and special powers called 'Vigors.' Elizabeth accompanies you wherever you go helping you in combat and helping you discover the city of Columbia. Columbia is run by a self styled prophet called Comstock but it's a society riddled with racism, class warfare and religious fanaticism making Bioshock Infinite very much a game for adults.
In BioShock Infinite, you play the role of a U.S. Cavalry veteran turned hired gun called Booker DeWitt. DeWitt's aim is to rescue Elizabeth, a mysterious girl that's been imprisoned since childhood and locked up in the flying city of Columbia. During the escape, you and Elizabeth must use every weapon at your disposal to fight zeppelins in the clouds, along high-speed Sky-Lines, and down in the streets of Columbia.
Superb story and backdrop but no multiplayer
Although Bioshock Infinite is an engrossing game, its a shame that there's no multiplayer option. However, the single player campaign is excellent and makes-up for this to some extent. The all round combat is good in Bioshock Infinite with lots of fun and interesting weapons but the enemies are limited in variety. It is the background story and graphics which steal the limelight in Bioshock infinite though. The characters are very well done and the sound and acting is excellent throughout.
Excellent performance on Mac
You can save your progress via checkpoints but there is no auto-saving or ability to save at any stage you choose. There are three difficulty levels to choose from and if you complete it, an "ultra-hardcore 1999 mode" opens up for a serious challenge. Performance on Mac is excellent - certainly on a par with PC - and the game supports a wide range of specs although you must be running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or above. Note also that Bioshock Infinite cannot be download via Steam
Highly recommended with a superb backdrop
Bioshock Infinite is not perfect. It's a fantastic experience, and a great example of a story that only video games can give you. But the basic framework of a First Person Shooter sometimes feels out of place in a game that pushes so much in other ways. Breathtaking, violent, and sure to keep you thinking long after you've completed it, Bioshock Infinite is easy to highly recommend.
